The Kensington Fire Protection District reopen applications for the Fiscal Year 2025-2026  reimbursement grants to help residents remove hazardous vegetation like juniper,and bamboo.

 

 

The Kensington Fire Protection District (KFPD) provides reimbursement funds after removing
hazardous vegetation from Kensington properties to reduce fuel loads around properties to
help protect your home, your neighbors’ homes, and the entire community.
This reimbursement grant program encourages the removal of hazardous vegetation near homes and near streets that will be used in the event of evacuation. Within each awarded grant, each property can be reimbursed for up to $2,000 based on available funding budgeted for this purpose.

 

HOW WILL PROJECTS BE PRIORITIZED?

Projects will be rated and prioritized based on the following criteria:
 

(A) Hazardous Vegetation Types
Removal of highly flammable plants such as bamboo, juniper, eucalyptus, and other species listed on the KFPD Plant List under Highly Flammable Plants. This list is found by visiting
www.kensingtonfire.org/plants
 

(B) Proximity to Structures and Roadway
Hazardous vegetation removal preferably should be within 30 feet of the residence or 10 feet from roadways.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

1. Obtain a quote and complete the online application.
Request a quote from a gardening or vegetation removal service provider.

Pricing may vary significantly depending on factors such as the provider’s reputation, business size, experience, and the scope of the project. While obtaining multiple bids is encouraged, property owners are responsible for selecting a service provider based on their own judgment.

2. Site visit by KFPD Coordinator.
After your application is submitted, the KFPD Coordinator will contact you to schedule a site visit. During the visit, the coordinator will verify project details and take photographs of the site.

3. Application review and approval.
Your application will be reviewed by a panel composed of members from the KFPD Emergency Preparedness Committee and the General Manager. If approved, you will be notified to proceed with the vegetation removal work.
Note: Vegetation removal completed prior to receiving grant approval is not eligible for reimbursement.

4. Submit proof of completion and request reimbursement.
Once the work is completed, submit proof of payment and documentation of the completed project to KFPD to receive the approved reimbursement.
