Lithium Batteries and Fire Safety
Lithium-ion batteries (powering tools, e-bikes, scooters, and portable chargers) can ignite if damaged, over-charged, or exposed to heat — posing a new wildfire and home ignition risk.
Simple steps to reduce risk:
- Charge safely: Never leave devices charging unattended or overnight.
- Use the right charger and avoid cheap knock-offs.
- Store cool and dry: Keep battery-powered equipment off wood decks and away from flammable materials.
- Recycle properly: Take spent batteries to household hazardous waste facilities — never trash or burn them.
- Know the signs: Swelling, heat, smoke, or odd odors mean unplug immediately and move the device outside away from structures.
When we manage both natural fuels (bamboo, juniper) and modern fuels (lithium batteries), we reduce fire risk on every level. That’s Clearing the Way Together.
